Overview

Today the Responsible Flushing Alliance (RFA) released its 2021 annual report, outlining the successes of the organization and its campaign to educate consumers on what not to flush while spreading awareness of new “Do Not Flush” labeling coming in July 2022.

The report celebrates a year of 57 percent growth in member acquisition, including partnerships with Kimberly-Clark, Procter & Gamble, Dude Products, and Nice-Pak, among other notable category leaders in the manufacturing of the non-woven products industry. The Responsible Flushing Alliance, with funding from its members, regularly publishes educational materials including blogs, printable activity pages, and thought-provoking infographics to inform consumers about how to improve their flushing habits for the betterment of their overall health, community sewer systems, and environmental wellbeing.

“We’re proud to count manufacturers, household name brands, news agencies, fellow trade associations, and wastewater agencies among our collaborative cohort as we envision an informed public who always knows and practices what products goes where when disposing,” said Lara Wyss, President of the Responsible Flushing Alliance.

In addition to launching a multi-channel campaign aimed at responsibly changing consumer flushing behaviors, RFA’s members advocate for continued compliance with California’s Assembly Bill 818, which calls for proper labeling of disposable wipes with the “Do Not Flush” symbol, set to go into effect on July 1, 2022. The RFA continues to recruit member companies in the nonwovens industry, wastewater groups, and nonprofits related to water quality, sanitation, or personal care products, to expand its important message around responsible flushing, product flushability, and AB 818 compliance in California.
